540 Brakes and Seals

My father-in-law has a 540 and I've pulled the brakes off to replace and found that the brake shaft seals need to be replaced on both sides.

Question 1: To remove the seal do I need to remove the backing plate?
(Based on AGCO's diagram it's part # t-15768 and is held on to the differential case with 5 bolds)

Question 2: Can anyone give me an advice in replacing these seals and brakes?

Additionally the left side brake only had two plates, both with splines, while the right side had two plates with splines and two without splines. All my research indicates that I need two discs per side, but no "shims" or splineless plates.

Additionally if anyone can direct me to an online free pdf version of the shop manual (or pages in the shop manual that I'd need) that would be appreciated.

Additionally any part #'s would be greatly appreciated.

FYI- I'm new to working on tractors, but not new to wrenching on things.

Thank you - Rick
