1955 starting problems after injection pump rebuild

I recently had the injection pump rebuilt on my 1955. It has always started easy, even with pump problems, except just before I took the pump off. I had to push the throttle up a bunch to get it to start. Well, the rebuilt pump needs a wide-open throttle and at least a half a tank of fuel to start, and then it takes some grinding on the starter. When it is warm, it will start up easier, but cold is another story, and I am in hot Texas. Any ideas why or what I can do to improve my starting?
