Cockshutt/oliver 1550 Hydraulic pump.. What else to replace

Hello everyone!

This is the 3rd attempt on trying to post a message and I hope this works this time.

I am helping a family member with a recent purchase of a ~1966(?) Cockshutt 1550 (gas motor with the 2 speed)
I am a complete novice to tractors.. Especially these older models, but I have experience in automotive fabrication/repair. I do have an IT Manual that I've been studying.

What we originally thought was a seized Hydraulic pump.. Turned out to be a seized idler gear bearing that is turned by the PTO shaft.. Which drives the Hydraulic pump. I believe this has the cast iron pump outlet if that makes any difference.

I have my machinist friend trying to salvage the idler gear shaft mount since it was chewed up pretty good. Plan is to machine down the idler gear mount and install a inner race and new needle bearing assembly.

Questions:

Idler gear orientation, which side of the gear faces the idler mount? I noticed this one appeared to be installed "backward". As in, the raised offset of gear hub was facing the mount.. Causing an offset tooth engagement of the pump gear and this idler gear. It appears that if the gear was installed the opposite direction (so the raised hub portion is facing away from mount). It would allow the tooth engagement to be even. What is the proper direction of idler gear installation?

2nd question.
I planned to replace other items while the transmission housing is removed and also the PTO output seal. Is there anything else that you guys recommend servicing while the tractor is down/opened up? I have a bunch of pictures I could send if needed.

For parts.. I see it is difficult to find some replacement/servicing parts for this tractor as well. Do you have a suggestion on where to purchase most parts?

I appreciate any help you can lend!

Thanks!
Shawn
