1655 engine swap

My 1655 diesel has a locked up engine.
I plan on tearing it down and doing a
major overhaul on it.
My question is what do I need to convert
my 283 to a 310?

The big money item would be the crankshaft. Make sure you install one piece pin bushings and inserts in the head so the valve protrusion is correct! It will improve starting! More questions?

ll As John mentioned, finding and cost of the 310 Crankshaft will be the big problem. You need to compensate for the longer stroke, Connecting rod are the same part number, use high tensile rod bolts, both 1650/1655 and 170/1755 are 3 7/8" bore thus you need pistons from a 1750 or later engine. Be careful of aftermarket sleeve & Piston sets, there are some that are machined improperly.

Getting the cylinder head in shape pre Service Bulletin # 430 927 filed in GB-10-106 illustrates valve projection.

I put Reliance cylinder kits in an E4 Buda 230 gas. Quality of the parts was good and everything fit up nice. I just don't have many hours on it yet. Their main and rod bearings were reboxed Federal Mogul but I'm thinking they manufacture their sleeves and pistons.
