oliver 70 carburator

I rebuilt the carburator on this oliver and it ran fine. However when I shut the tractor off gas continued to flow through the carburator like the needle and seat were'nt shut. So I tore it apart and adjusted the float. Now it does'nt leak gas, but it pops when idiling through the carburator and won't pick up the rpms. I've checked the firing order twice and tried to adust the carburator settings to no avial. I have'nt been able to check the timing, as I can't find any timing marks. The Oldboy that was working on this tractor passed away, and I'm trying to get it running for his brothernlaw. But I'm not an OliverMan. This is my first, and it's driving me crazy. Please Help

Carb needs a complete cleaning sounds like the idle circuit is clogged most likely it ran before when the needle seat was leaking because it was leaking gas enough to let it idle and rev up now with the leak fixed not enough gas

yes, it ran fine it throtled up and there wasn't a pop in the carb. This tractor sat for alot of years. Before I initially put the carburator
kit in it. I scraped the bowl out with a small screwdriver and wire brush, and ran a torch tip cleaner into every port I could find. Then I
soaked it in white vinagar for aweek. Just to get it as clean as I could. I probably took enough dirt out of it to cover the bottom of a
coffee cup an 1/8 inch deep. Have I got all the dirt out, I dont know. I take it apart and the bowl is still clean.

yes, it will stay idiling with the choke on. I pulled the carburator off agian this morning. As Im not seeing any dirt in the bowl, I did
notice the fuel is cloudy. Making me believe there's still dirt in this carburator and some of the ports are yet plugged. the dirt is so hard
in some of these ports , I actually used a small drill bit in my fingers to open them. Anyway, Ive backed up to step one, the carb is
disassembled and soaking in white vingar agian for the time being.

Do you have anything stronger than vinegar? Carb or Chem dip? I strip them down, soak what I can, clean the passages with a fine wire, followed by aerosol carb cleaner, then compressed air. Reassemble with fresh gaskets, etc. Do you have an inline filter after the sediment bowl? If the tank and everything downstream are as dirty as the carb, chances are your work will be futile. I also have a little remote reservoir I use for testing prior to hooking the main system back up.

Also, these could be the carb settings assuming it still has the Zenith:

Lead needle open approx 3 1/4 to 3 1/2
Idle needle open approx 1
Float level 1 7/32 inch
Actual fuel level 1/2 inch

I don't have carb dip or chem cleaner, I do have aresol carb cleaner. I'll have to check into getting some of the other. As far as wire, Ive
been using a torch tip cleaner. I suppose as long as I seperate the brass pieces, I could use a mild acid, as it's a marvel schuller cast
iron carburator. Right now I'm open to any suggestions. I even priced a rebiult and new carburator today. ouch

It's a Marvel Schuller carburator. The inline filter is a good suggestion, that I will install. Yes I have a metal quart paint thiner can
that I brazed a line into. Makes a great little fuel tank.
