Oliver 77...Noisy Clutch

Good Afternoon all, we are working on getting an Oliver 77 ready for pulling season. We deleted the belt pulley and while we were there decided to put a larger clutch from a super 77 in. The super 77 clutch was from my pulling tractor years ago but was in good shape. We put it all back together and now when you push the clutch in, there is a light rattling sound. We thought that the increased spring pressure might have been too much for the original throw out bearing so we tore it apart and replaced the throw out bearing with a new one. We put it back together and as soon as you push in on the clutch the rattling sound is there. Its not metallic like anything is hitting the bell housing. The tractor drives fine, but it acts like the clutch is not fully separating as the drive shaft does not fully stop turing. The drive shaft actually seems to increase in rpms the harder/further you push the pedal down. Any input you guys have would be appreciated. My next step would be to tear it apart and put the smaller clutch back in. Thanks Again. Chris

They didn't have a pilot bearing, they had a brass pilot bushing. When those get bad, they'll make a grinding noise. Is that what's happening?

Is the new clutch a metallic or fiber disc? Was the old one a metallic or fiber disc?

I am running an 11" metallic disc with a pressure plate from an 88 and it works fine, so it should work for you.

I suspect that the fingers on your new pressure plate need to be adjusted, this is causing the throwout bearing to over travel and the side of the throwout bearing is contacting the fingers. This would also explain why input shaft keeps spinning due to insufficient engagement of the fingers.
