Making some progress, Timing cover is on, governor housing is on, oil pump and distributor is in, pan is on. Trying to decide whether to put the head on and then lift it off of the motor stand or carry it to the tractor with the head off and put head on after motor is installed. It'll probably set for a few days, Tuesday is trash day and the bottom of my dumpster needs replaced. I have a new one, so I should fix that before finishing the 550. Chris

The dealer had a fiber washer with a key slot in it for $2.00. I put it on and he said to leave the big fiber washer off, it would just mess up the seal.

Did you get the oil pump installed correctly? It drives the distributor, if the pump is not in correctly it will throw the location of #1 out of position.

Super99, I had someone rebuild my engine in my Super 55 and I recall they mentioned there was a head bolt that has an oil passage. It has to be in the correct position on the head. Wish I was more knowledgable on the matter, but just wanted to warn you so that you put it in the right place. It may be something that is totally obvious, and I hope it is. Just didn't want you bolting the head on and then having to change it. I am sure someone will let me know if I am full of beans.
