Will a D298 fit in OC46? I just purchased a GOV remanufactured D298ER wondering if anyone has experience retrofitting a Oliver tractor? Heard they work for Cockshutt's 570.

The Cockshutt 570 used a 6 cyl. 298 cu. in. Hercules engine. The Cletrac OC 46 used a 3 cyl. 130 cu. in engine. I'm sure the drive line would not last at over 3 times the torque. The 6 cyl, would also be nearly twice the length.

Yes it's definitely a government engine I bought it from government auction. It was remanufactured still in it's sealed crate. I took a shot at it and won. Was thinking it might fit. But looks like in general this thing is to big to fit. Going to do some measuring tomorrow to double check. I couldn't pass it up a complete reman a engine, impulse buy. I may try find the 4 cylinder D198. My current ibx needs a ton of work, choking amounts of blow buy, not much power and compression readings from 40 to 90, all with a couple of stripped head bolts. What tractor does the D298 for in?

Compared to the Cockshutt 570 DD298 engine, the Hercules 298 military engine has a much heavier crankshaft, can clockwise or counterclockwise and the fuel injection pump may be on the opposite side of the engine and will be a different brand of pump.

I was actually thinking along those lines, I have an OC 46 which has problems. I got such great deal on this engine it might almost be better to just get Cockshutt and sell the Oliver.
