1850 Gas Governor Repair

The governor weight pins are knurled on one side and have a c-clip on the other side. The holes in the weight carrier that the knurled pins are pressed into are worn to the point that the the pin is no longer a press fit.
This seems to be a problem with these governors. The pins become loose, fly out, and then the governor is damaged. I've been told the weigh carrier is no longer available. I do have a used carrier but the pin holes are a little loose. These are pictures of the bad one that came apart.
Has anyone spot welded the pins to the carrier to keep them in place? Any other ideas?

Don't have a ready answer for you, But, how handy are you? I wonder if you measured first and got exact measurements on the holes if you could weld the holes shut and redrill them so they are tight? Have you checked salvage yards to see about a used one?Chris

Yes I did buy a used one but the holes that the pins press into on one side are a little loose. I am tempted to make new pins that are longer and use cotter pins or c-clips on both sides of each pins.
Welding the holes shut and re-drilling them would be easy for me but I?ll be left with the same problem down the road.
I was thinking about a more positive way to correct this. What has the tractor pullers done to there governors when they work on them?

I ended up taking the used one that I bought and removed the c-clips on the end of the governor weight pins. I shifted the pins so there was about a 1/16? sticking out both sides. I then silver soldered all four ends of the pins. It worked great.
