I heated the screw on the pto and got it out ok. You all were right, there are 2 set screws in it. Now on to getting the hub off of the shaft. Pretty obvious someone was in there with a punch and chisel banging on the nut. Any suggestions on how to hold the hub while trying to get the nut loose? Thanks, Chris

I use a 1/8th drill bit & drill the staked places out by laying the bit in the splines---It is a right hand threaded nut---You can make a spanner wrench using a pipe & some square key stock---Hold the shaft at the rear end with a pipe wrench or a pto shaft---HTH

Nut is staked at the grooves, use a small punch to unstake the nut. I made a spanner wrench with a piece of pipe.

One of those spanner nuts is also left hand. Chris it has been 45+ years since I worked on one of those PTO's. I will also be out of town Wednesday. Do you have a book?

   Just a word of advice: Go to the rear of the tractor and look at the position of the oil level plug and note how far it is off the floor.   In the opening where you are at there is a couple of seals, however there is only one that is below the oil level.   It is inside the driven gear and seals between the gear and long PTO shaft going to the back of the tractor.

   A lot of guys have overlooked this seal and complained that it still leaks.   I have looked at too many tractors, answer: DUH didn't see that seal!
