What is my 550 Oliver worth

I have a 550 Oliver gas tractor in good restorable condition. Tires are dry rot but holds air. Runs great with no rust. I am told these Oliver tractors are fairly rare. What should I expect to get for it if I sell it or should i be wise and keep it?

They're not rare. A gas 550 is fairly common. Auction prices usually bring under $2k for a runner with decent tires. Something that would make it much more desirable to an Oliver guy would be a factory drawbar or the factory remote valve in front of the seat.

There has been one on and off on Craigslist local to me at $5k for about the past year and a half. It is fully restored and has a matching loader.

Since it has been for sale for so long, tells me that he's hoping for someone to fall in love with it. I think if he dropped it to $3000-$3500 he might get it moved.

There was one on CL here a few weeks ago that went quick. The ad said it'd been in the family for 40 years, had an Oliver trip bucket loader on it,looked like it'd been stored inside. They were asking $1500. I saw it in the morning right after it was posted,by mid afternoon the ad was gone.

It depends on where you are, and if the buyer is looking for a restorable oliver specifically, or if they're just looking for something to do a job. Around here tractor shows are pretty much dominated by deere when it comes to old time.

If you're looking to target a buyer that is looking for something with 3pt and PTO in that weight and HP rating, you'd have to price it for what comaprable machines are going for.

If you want a buyer that is an oliver lover, price it in what other olivers go for. But they're much fewer.

In my opinion, unless you're strapped for cash, the machine isn't going to depreciate much more, if any. Any time I've sold a machine I've regretted it because within 6-12 months i'm thinking "if only i hadn't sold that...". I keep an eye out for olivers because of what my oliver has done for me and in the immediate area, there are very few, it's deere country here.
