Putting a 354.4 in an 1850

Hi

The 1850 I pull with has one bad cylinder.
I have a 354.4 Turbo out of a combine.

How hard would the transplant be?
Or should I take all the internal pieces out of the 354.4 and put them in the block in the 1850?

If you want to leave the turbo on,you'll have to cut the fuel tank so it clears it. Other than that, any combine engine you use you'll have to change the front cover, pan, oil pump and plumbing, oil filter base, tappet cover, rear side cover, fuel lines to clear the throttle linkage, water pump..... probably a few more things,I forget,it's been a few years since I swapped one out. It's not a hard job, just a lot of little things that are different and have to be changed over from the original engine.

I am planning to leave the turbo off. But want to be able to add it back at sometime in the future.

The biggest issue I see is the .4 does not have the side panels where the oil fill neck is.

Anyone have a solution?

Hmmm,I didn't know that. I wonder which one my 2-105 has in it? That one has the side covers with the fill neck the same as my 1850. I put an engine out of an 8700 White combine in my 1850.

In about 2003 I put a 354T out of a MF 750 in my 1850. Go to the archives

and look up super99. I posted several pictures of it before repainting it. You can see the green parts on the red block. Wasn't too difficult, I was able to do it. Ran into a few head scratchers, but was able to figure it out. IIRC, the pistons on the turbo were flat top and the n/a had a dish in the middle( maybe it was the other way around), anyhow, I didn't think it would run very well without the turbo. Look up the pictures, if you have questions, I will try to answer them. Chris

My vote is fix the one that is in the
tractor, never been too fond of putting
in a mystery engine, go through all the
work swapping everything to find out you
have to rebuild it anyway! Just my dumb
two pennies!

I would much rather the dot4
I want as many ponies as I can get and still be reliable.
It does nothing but pull.
Some of the pulls I go to will not allow added turbos.
