Power booster repair?

A few years ago I got this dead 880 from a guy in a trade. He told me he thought it had a rod knock. He also mentioned that sometimes the power booster did not work. I had one for a while when I was young and it seamed like the booster would just let the tractor come to a complete stop when you pulled back on the lever to shift down. Then all of the sudden it would engage and lurch forward. I have looked a little closer to the engine and I am pretty sure that the crankshaft is broken. I can rotate the front pulley that is tight on the crankshaft a little bit,but the flywheel does not move. I have since found a replacement engine for it but wonder if the power booster had anything to do with breaking the crankshaft. Are parts available for the power booster? I have a complete hydropower unit. Could I just put that in in place of the power booster?

Some parts are available. If you pull the lever back and it stops moving, that's a sign of the Sprague clutch being worn. That part is available but it is high priced. I've heard that the Sprague clutch from a newer tractor will work at about 1/2 the price. I don't remember which one though. 2-110 sticks in my mind. A good parts man should know. The shaft will more than likely be worn also. Make sure to get that rebuilt.

I thought I read a sprague clutch out of a hydra power worked but never researched it. I would get in touch with Brad Metcalf, Maibach tractor oh r Korves. One of them could probably help you.

Just put in a sprag out of a 3 speed. We just did that to our 88 we had a power booster in. It will need to be installed backwards direction of what is in a 3 spd.

Have you measured the length of the hydropower and what sprocket will fit the transmission imput shaft?

I replaced the spraug clutch in my 880 about 8 or 9 years ago with one made for a 2-105, AGCO part # 72161793. I was told keep the transmission oil a quart above the filler drain plug. Unit has been working fine.
