Wheel Story

Back in the late 90's (98 or 99) I decided to find a front wheel for my 1955 to make a spare. No used ones were found, so I went to the Oliver dealer I was then using for a new one. They had an aftermarket one that would accept my 11L-15 tire. After mounting a tire on the wheel, I tried to mount the new wheel /tire on the hub. Something was wrong. The lug bolts wouldn't tighten up right. I then took both the wheel/tire I had taken off and this new wheel/tire to the Oliver dealer. The partsman who had sold me the wheel told me it was fine. I took both tires back home, remounted the existing wheel and stored the spare. This week, I had a flat and decided to use the mounted tire on the new wheel. I looked at the new wheel and found that the center mounting disk had been welded in backwards. The Oliver dealer has been out of business for years. The sticker on the wheel inside the tire was like new. I googled the supply company on the sticker and found that the state had shut them down for nonpayment of salestax. What a day!
