I have an Oliver 1950 GM with a 1000 RPM PTO shaft.......Will a 1850 Oliver 540 PTO shaft fit it?

Same basic pto unit. You will just need to change the shifter to 540. Shifter rail is at the bottom of the pto unit on the right side. The only exception is if the unit came with just a 1000 rpm pto but i doubt it.

If it is a two speed unit it will have a shift rail in the lower right hand corner of the unit. Also there will be a bolt and lock nut sticking straight down from that same area.

You may need to check if there is a shifter rail on the bottom right side of the PTO housing. As the other person stated, there would be 3/8's cap screw with a locking nut that would be bolted in from the bottom. If this bolt exists, then I would remove it and screw a 3/8 long bolt into the shaft and see if it shifts. My understanding is that most came with the 540/1000 rpm pto setup. Just because your just has a 1000 rpm shaft may simply mean the 540 shaft was lost. I believe the shifter has to come out to be in 540 and in to be in 1000.
