Is it factory 12 volt key start? If so it is a 1957 model. Now on the other 3 years I need to think a little bit as most of those changes were internal.

Earlier models had dates on main castings. Are there any on these later models? I know my 90 has a casting date on the engine - and probably
on other castings.

As ol90 says, maybe casting dates. Look under the rear end housing for a number other than the part number. I don't remember just exactly how that code went. Seems like it was last number of the year, then month and day maybe. So a code of 51123 would be 1955,November 23rd ? Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Between the back of the thermostat housing and the front of the valve cover the year and the month the head was machined and assembled is stamper there. Now I have them under the thermostat housing and just inside the valve cover so my need to remove either the thermostat housing and or the valve cover or both to find it. It will get you close to when the tractor was assembled.

Thanks everyone for your help, we found the bill of sale of sale with the serial number and it is a 1955 super 77 and is still in it's original work clothes, runs good and will be restored. Chuck

Thanks, John. Do you know if there any date stamps/embossments on other castings?

In 50 years, a head (or even a complete engine) could easily have been changed out.

But every little bit of evidence is a useful indicator.
