Super 55 PTO repair

I "Z" split my Super 55 to replace the PTO clutch discs and install new seals a few months ago and just now putting it back together. I have the original repair manual and parts manual, but I can not find where
it mentions where part 100684A, snap ring installs. Logically it looks like it should clip onto the PTO drive pinion shaft, to keep the clutch release bearing on the clutch release tube. Just want some
confirmation before I button it back up.

I think I may have it figured out. I couldn't figure out why it wasn't mentioned in the repair manual in reference to the PTO repair and "Z" split. I believe that clip is suppose to go on the other side of the clutch, to hold the pilot bearing in place. I looked up clutch servicing in the the shop manual. In later tractors it looks like there were two clips held in by cap screws that replaced the "C" clip. The mystery is, how did my clip get on the backside of the clutch and onto the PTO pinion gear? I had the engine rebuilt and new clutch installed a few years ago, and I am wondering if that's when it happened? Looks like now I'll have to remove the clutch and hunt down a clutch alignment tool to reassemble it.
