1600 clutch

Could it be that simple?

Not long ago,somebody posted about a clutch not releasing when it got heated up. I believe it was on a 1600. I didn't reply because I was having the same trouble and hadn't found the problem. When I was hauling round bales home early this spring and unloading with my 1600 loader tractor,it was giving me fits. I had to pull it in to under drive to shift between gears and direct then idle it all the way down to get it in gear from neutral. I adjusted the pedal free travel by adjusting the rod. It helped a little bit,but not much and not long.

I've been hauling round bales home this week and using it to unload and stack them in the barn. It was hanging up and grinding gears so bad that I was seriously considering putting the loader on a different tractor until I could pull the engine and change the clutch and pressure plate.

I was putting oil in it this morning and noticed that it looked like the cast cowl had been moving where it bolts to the tub. I got a wrench and those half inch bolts were loose as a goose. I tightened them up and used it all day unloading and stacking. It works great. I think the whole casting was moving when I pushed the pedal down,so adjusting it wasn't doing any good. It was just shifting out of whack then moving back again when I let the pedal up.

The odd things that happen!
 
My 1650 let the plate the bell housing bend down,that thin plate supports maybe 150 pounds plus hanging way back there its a wonder it didnt break.
My fix i took nuts off the engine mount bolts ,removed drive chain and pto shaft,jacked rear of engine up.i cut a 6"x6"x1" thick piece of old bias ply truck tire tread and put it under the
Hydra power and frame, let engine back down it was just a hair too high but i went ahead n put er back together.was so much smoother clutch was great too.and by second daybthe gear teeth on both sprockets were flush.i since have done that to 5 other 1650 and 1655s.owners were very happy
 
I'm certainly not the expert here, but lots of us have done this to keep the sprockets lined up: apparently was done in factory on some although not on my 1655 or 2-70: Drill a 5/8 or 1/2 in. hole in bottom of tub under back side of 2 speed or 3 speed as you have. Run a bolt w/ locking nut up thru your threaded whole, raise 2-3 speed up so sprockets align better.. helped on mine.
 
My term for lack of a better name for the lower half of the dash that the clutch and brake pedals are mounted to. The part where the serial tag is riveted to.
