Super 77 Jimmy

RR that looks like a good unit. 2 71 was a good motor and easy to work on. I would say buy.

What's the tractor serial number plate look like? I think that's a plain 77.
The frame tub is covered up with that loader frame. The side panels do
not have rolled edges like the Supers but those might not be original.
Would it matter to anyone?

Something about that engine looks very unconventional. The blower is mounted remotely instead of against the block.

I think it might be a 51 series, perhaps a 4-51. This engine had no valves, and was phased out when the ?53 series superseded the ?51.

I?m even more certain that the engine is NOT a 2-71, or a 2-53. What I thought was a blower is not a blower at all. Could be a governor.

I?m going with either a 2-51 or 4-51.
2 51 running

It looks weird, but to me, it looks like a 2-71 with a blower delete. That plate on the engine matches what would be the blower profile.

Well, it could be 2-71 with a blower delete, except:

a) it wouldn?t run with no blower;
b) there are no covers on the other side for the ports. ?71?s
had a cover for each cylinder.

What I mean is a blower delete plate on the left side. It's the same shape as the standard 2-71 blower. That looks like a blower mounted on the rear of the engine above the bellhousing. Intake goes right in.

I don't know how you can see the other side of the engine through the generator, power steering and filters. Are you looking at different pictures? All the 2-71s I've seen have only one cover on the right side. Individual covers start with the 3-71.

The engine definitely looks like a 2-71 to me. But what has me stumped is the blower on the rear. I've never seen that configuration. I have access to plenty of Detroit literature so I'll have to take a look.

Yes, I was mistaken about individual covers on 2-71?s.
Wish there were more pix showing details of the engine.

As long as we're talking Jimmy's:
