Oliver 1550 diesel. Lots of hours on the old girl. Rebuilt injectors and pump. Starts easy and runs well. Pretty low oil pressure. Most of the time it smokes pretty good. Sometimes it runs pretty much amok free. That usually doesn't last long and it starts to smoke. Does not seem to matter if the motor is warm or cold. I do get some diesel in the oil. Just worn out? Rings and bearings? Needs to make it through hay season-at least I hope!

Do these periods of no smoke coincide with the tractor doing some heavier work? Is the engine running hot enough?

Presumably only blue smoke? Oil going down valve guides? Is the fuel in the oil from ticking over? Might be an injector spurting rather than spraying.

If it starts well, there is likely not a lot wrong with the rings and bores - unless only on one or two pots. Removing manifold and running the engine might give some indication.

Most of the time it smokes right from the start and continues even when warm. 7' haybine is about as hard as it works but smokes with or without it.

Id say whitish gray. Not black at all. Seems like a lot of diesel smell to it. It also did this before the pump and injector work. Starts and runs better after the work. Shop said pump and injectors were in need of work.

After repairing a broken hitch Monday night i hooked Bach up to the mower. Made one round and have up. Too much smoke and I think power issues. Switched to the jd and finished 2 more fields. No time to mess with it now. When I do get time I think I will start with pulling the injectors again and have them checked. I think I might be getting too old to be this frustrated. May be time to either get something newer or give this hay deal up! Could probably buy hay for the rest of my life for the cost of a tractor
