More specifically, what is transmission code 438? Hydraulic FWA?

No. We sold 1 1850 with a 438 code (S/N 158 627). They ordered the tractor with a pinion shaft if they wanted to convert it to front wheel assist.

I'm not that familiar with the hydraulic add fwa systems. So if I understand correctly, the 438 denotes the pinion shaft required to mount the hydraulic pump for the FWA? The FWA was then a dealer added accessory?

I just checked a buddy's serial on his 1850 Mechanical FWD. It too has the 438 code.

This was for a mechanical FWA. The transfer case was mounted to this. On the hydraulic FWA the pump runs off the crankshaft.

Thanks. This 1850 I'm looking at must've been converted from mechanical to hydraulic.
