I bought a ďstuckĒ oliver 770, upon taking the head off I realized its more than stuck. The cylinder sleeves are all cracked and there is cracks between the cylinders as well. Is this a usable engine, or will I need another one?

Where are you located? That may help you find a block or engine based on someone else's location on here.

That block froze. Also look at the top of the head for cracks. Were the soft plugs in place? There were also 3 different block castings used on the 770 tractors.

I think that block is junk. Hairline cracks between sleeves are ok. Yours look like water froze in the sleeves and cracked things apart. Look like pretty substantial cracks.

The cracks between cylinders at the top are most common on those old things and seal up with the head gasket, but; I've seen quite a few opened up blocks in my day yet this one I haven't seen before. Could someone explain what we're seeing here? thanks,,, gm

Hairline cracks at the block deck are genarally harmless if they arenít veíed out. If itís cracked at the lower O-ring bore, block is junk. It will put coolant in the oil.

You will need to get the sleeves out for further inspection. Cracks between cylinders should be ok. So I've heard.
