1650 OLIVER LEAKING PTO ISSUES?

I have a Oliver 1650 and the pto shaft has developed a leak that will leave a small puddle every time I park it. I went to the local ago dealer picked up a pto shaft seal pretty standard I thought, upon inspection it was not quite as simple as I thought. I started researching on this forum and found the pto stub shaft had to be removed and there are 2 orings a seal and some type of plug that should be replaced. When I removed the pto shaft there is only 1 oring I can find and no seal and no plug? Are there different set-ups for this? Can anyone give me a picture of this plug i am missing? When the shaft was removed gear oil came out of the hole and after it drained I can see straight through to inside that axle housing there doesn"t look like anywhere that a plug would go? thank you in advance any help is appreciated

Randy, There are a couple different PTO housings. Pictured is the single speed 540 unit in my garage. If yours is the same it will have the 4 bolt cover. In the 2nd picture that is the PTO shaft no cap inside. In my I&T manual I only see seals and O rings. I

Greg: There is one housing for a 1650. The second housing you show is for a 1600!Randy by your description you do not have a full dual speed unit. I need to look at a picture. It has been 43 years since I worked on one. Randy I will send you an e-mail

There should be a plastic plug on the inside end of the hollow shaft. You will have to remove the pto unit to replace it. Without it the gear oil will seep through the sealed bearing on the pto stub shaft. It is not uncommon for that plug to deteriorate and fall off.
