sickle mower uses

apparently I have a 415 oliver sickle mower. my question is on pulley that drives the mower blade there is what looks like a pto drive. below that there is around tube with a hole to hook something up to pull. anyone know what that might be. thanks

Hay conditioner. It crimps the stalks so they dry out faster. Pulling right behind a mower made it the predecessor to a full on haybine.

its used to pull oliver model 37 crimper, did it for several years in my younger days

No joke. NH had them, too. I have an NH crusher (same thing but smooth rolls) that was intended to go behind the sickle but we had a COOP mower so used it as a pull type behind a tractor.
