Oliver 1555 add a 3 point

I have this 1555 that looks simple to ad an aftermarket 3 point to. Does anyone know what one might fit? I see there are some for the IH's, old JD's, and Oliver 66 to 770. Would one of these kits adapt fairly easy? By the time a guy bought all the steel and parts to make one the cost would be close to the same as buying one. Or is the mounting part of these kits to far off that I'd have to make one? Hydraulics is not a problem.

That's not one of those "Loader Specials" is it? If it is,you might do better to sell it and buy two more 1555s with what you can get out of it. They can fetch a pretty good price.

Otherwise,if it's not,the 3pt arms and everything from a 1550,1600 1650 etc should fit. Is the rockshaft there?

No it's not a loader special and no rockshaft, that's why I was looking a possibly one of those bolt on kits. It has a loader which was put on by putting a hydraulic pump on the front of the engine so I do have hydraulics to plumb into.

Ok- silly question but this is my first Oliver- Been reading a little so now I better ask how I tell if it is a loader special? I was just assuming it would say that on the decals somehow.

On a loader special the back end looks like this.

I would bet that you can find a complete 3 pt assembly in a parts yard for less than an aftermarket 3 pt kit costs. It will be a little more time for the installation if it matters. Might be off of a 1550 if it matters (correct police).

I'm kind off wondering with the comment on the front pump being the only hydraulics on that tractor if you are not correct about being a loader special. Even the Wheatlands had hydraulics under the seat. I don't know how far down those tractors could be deleted. I've got a JD price book from 1971 and a dealer could delete all remote valves and three point including rockshaft on a 2520 or 3020 for example. Maybe with an Oliver Wheatland you could delete all hydraulics? Thoughts?

I think probably the majority of Wheatlands had depth stop hydraulics instead of Hydralectric.

Ok. going by that picture that is exactly what I have. Are there any serial #s I should look for for it to fall into? And is it a more rare tractor than the regular 1555? And would it be worth more or less than a regular 1555? The Ezee on loader is almost brand new and I was going to sell it as I have no use for it and I wasn't sure what I would do with the tractor. The tractor is in darn good shape but now maybe I should keep them together? I'll get a better picture of the back and post it in a day or 2. Thanks

That Machinery Pete loader special was an anomaly. They produced quite a few loader specials and nothing made that one special that I know of. Two bidders just got stupid for a tractor, if you ask me. I've seen most auction results under $5k.

Yeah that auction seems out there and I wouldn't even waste my time trying a crazy price like that, but if I keep them together I'll probably start at about $8k rather than the 6 I was thinking about. That loader is in beautiful shape by itself. I was thinking of adding the 3 point cause I need that but not another loader.

I agree with scootergmc, a local jockey had a loader special real nice tractor for $4500. It sat almost a year before it disappeared. Everyone wants a 3 point.

I agree that there'll never be another one that'll bring that kind of money, but they do have a collector value that puts them higher than a "normal" 1555. They have to be advertised right though, you can't leave them on the back of the lot in the middle of nowhere so nobody knows about them.
They're like those green Cockshutt Rice Specials that were bound for Viet Nam but ended up in Canada. To look at one, you'd just say "Who in the world would ever want a tractor like that?".

I agree to an extent. The ones I've seen at auction don't have much of a collector value- even at Aumann's vintage tractors auction, like the example pictured above, only brought $4500. There was another auctioned in NE last September for $3800 hammer price. Those prices are right in line with a decent condition regular row crop 1555.

I wouldn't consider them particularly rare, and even if I was a hardcore collector, a 1555 loader special would be way down on the gotta have it list, just because I know they're available and production numbers weren't that low- Sherry's research said there were over a thousand or something like that. They're a neat story and all, but that's about it to me... :D

For a long time you couldn't give those 500s away, but now look what's happened with a little bit of attention to them. There was a time when I was actively looking for a 1550 utility to beat to death as a loader tractor, but those have become a pretty hot collector's item now too. That $29000 sale came not too long after Sherry did an article on those loader specials.

It wasn't long ago that I asked on here about those green Viet Nam Cockshutts. There was one on an online auction here and I wondered what it was. That one brought pretty good money and it wasn't six months later, there was an article about them in either OH or HPOC.

All you have to do to make something collectable is give it a little publicity and say there weren't many of them.
