Question for Oliver 550 gas tractor Guru's

I have been working on my Oliver 550 gas over the last 2 years slowly correcting problems.
I currently have a broken tooth on the top shaft 4th gear ( believe that is correct). 2 Pics attached.

I started my current work almost a year ago by replacing both brake components, through brake shaft/seals, PTO seals, then moved to the hydraulic top unit, which I removed and am replacing the pan (pitted and rusted through in places) that separates the hyd. top unit from the trans., honing and re-sealing the 3 point lift cylinder, and still have to replace the seals and bushings on the lift arms.
While I had the top unit off Kent Gordon was sent some pictures along with a description of a cyclical transmission ?clunk? that has been present ever since I have owned the tractor. This prevented me from using 4th gear which is an ideal gear for tilling my pecan orchard.
Even though it was right in front of my nose I didn?t see the broken tooth, but Kent sure did from the photo.

I was reluctant to tackle the trannie, and finally found a former John Deere mechanic (where the tractor is now), (he worked as a mechanic for JD for several decades), to replace the 2 gear set I bought from Kent.
My mechanic is not at all familiar with Oliver but said he could fix it, along with any clutch parts as required, a leak either from the rear of the engine or front of the transmission, and inspect all PTO parts and R&R as required.
On Friday he pulled the transmission shifter mechanism, both brake assemblies, big splined shafts from each side, and the ring gear. See attached pics

He was concerned about the front to back rotation slop of the gears on the top shaft. All the gear surfaces seemed to have uniform wear patterns on them with no uneven, or badly warn surfaces from what i could see.
I provided him with both the IT manual and the 3 set OEM Oliver manuals, but he is not a reader I am afraid.

Is there any guidance on what to look for in the Oliver OEM shop manuals, when overhauling the transmission?
Such as amount of free play, damage, wear, etc.

He still has the OEM manuals, but since he is not using them I plan on picking them up today and maybe get a little smarter.

Any guidance any of you 550 gurus might be so gracious as to provide would be appreciated.

Thanks
