What did I buy? A 77 or 88?

There was an auction nearby, and I won this lot, which was listed as a diesel 770... It's not. I bought it because it has really good tires and runs great, and power steering, but I still don't know what it is. I know it's not a super- there are no frame pads. The spec number is 88-1406 and the serial is 3503493, which makes it a 1953. The casting numbers on the engine are 104305A and 190320N. I'm thinking it's an 88 with a later 880 block. What say you guys? Thanks.

It?s an 88. Quickest way to identify at a glance is the grill
panels. 88 has a wider body so the grills have those bumps at
the bottom.

Thanks. I didn't know the grill differences. Does that mean the 77 and 88 have different tubs, or just wider bodywork?

Could be. The farmer had a few dozen Oliver/Whites over the past 50 years, so I don't know from what they were taken. I haven't looked that close yet.

As far as I know and somebody else will probably chime in,
The tubs are the same. The tin just got wider. The grill screens
should bump down to the same size as a 77 right there at the
bottom.

More photos for a slow day on the Oliver forum. Let me know if you see anything extra funky or out of sorts. It was most recently being used as a trailer puller/ditch pump hauler.
