1850 power steering box link arm

Does the shaft/stud that goes thru the
tub have a taper to it? Like a tie rod or
balljoint has. The one on my 1850 is all
sorts of wobbled out on both ends where
it holds the pin from the steering gear
and also the shaft part is whooped. I
think the hole in the tub is wore also
from that link being loose for so long.
So I am trying to determine what to do to
fix all this.
 
This is a pic of mine when I had it out. The PO cut keyways in the shaft and the steering arm to accept a key as the fine splines were wore out. I put it back together this way and it works fine. As you can see, the top of the shaft is tapered.

That was an issue because the bolt that held the steering box onto that shaft would loosen up. Both of those pieces are available new.
