I'm considering this tractor for my property, but I know nothing about Oliver's. It appears parts can be had on this website so that in encouraging....

https://rochester.craigslist.org/grd/d/oliver-1355-tractor/6825516701.html

The current owner says there are issues with the trans and 4x4....claims he Bought the tractor with 3rd + 4th gears gone and 4X4 missing shaft in differential. Hydraulics and engine are strong. Says he just always used it as it is.

I would want to get these repaired. Definitely the tranny but the 4x4 just because it's broken. How crazy of a repair is this? I assume split the tractor open but, is it all open and a similar repair to say a Ford of that era?

Also how does that price look to y'all?

Much as I like those Fiat built 4X4 tractors, the unknowns about the tranny and 4WD problems would make me want to get it for $2k max.

Like TF says, parts for that front end could be a problem. That, and I'm always leery of anything with transmission problems. I've got a 1365 FWA. I haven't had any trouble getting parts for the front planetaries on that one through AGCO,but they used a different front end.

First rule of Oliver Fiats, parts aren't cheap. Second rule of Oliver Fiats, parts are expensive if you can find them. Since you want to fix it, $3k is way too high. To me, $3k is a figure someone throws out who's content running a jerry-rigged tractor without all its gears, and is looking for like-minded buyer. Out here, that would be a sub $1k tractor at auction, if the problems were disclosed. Heck, a pretty straight, running, problems unknown 2wd 1465 with ~3k hours sold at auction for $1100 this weekend.

As a lot of our older tractors are out here, that tractor was going to Mexico, regardless of price. I could've bid them up, but I was going to lose.

Sure they can, but not necessarily. I've been to a lot of auctions these past 2-3 years, and it's all relative. The tractor in question here, the 1355, is without question a $3k turnkey project of burning money, especially for someone who's not an emotionally invested Oliver lover/collector.

For a $3k FWA tractor with issues, I'd find a Kubota with issues.

Darn, I figured parts might be trouble. The 4*4 I could live without, I was shopping for a 2 wheel drive anyways. But the front end looked quite stout.

Would transmission parts be easier to fond!? I found gears etc right on this site

Did you get a serial number? I can remember getting some service bulletins on those transmissions because of machining problems on some of the gears.

(quoted from post at 11:41:21 02/26/19) If you keep an eye out you can probably find a parts tractor to get the 4WD parts you need.
