Looking for opinions on the value of a 770, early style, good tires/rims, pretty good sheet metal, runs and operates OK.Biggest negative is it has mechanical lift. What'd be a ball park figure?

Even at $1500 that price is reasonable as the 770 are a fine tractor that were ahead of their time.

My only issue with 2 digit number series and 3 digit number series (except for maybe the very last year 880) Oliver's is the very loud tranny whine the gears make. Does not bother some people...others people the whine drives nuts. Do not care for the brake pedal location either for a taller guy.

My tractor time is relax time away from the everday world so I prefer the quietness of the 4 digit number series Oliver's myself.

Yes 1550 still has the spur gear tranny which is the source of the noise but a 1550 at least has that heavy cast iron top tranny plate cover which helps muffle the noise some as compared to the thin sheet metal cover on a 2 digit or 3 digit series Oliver.

Gotta go to last year there abouts of a 880 model or alternatively to a 1600 or higher number of 4 digit series Oliver to get the quieter helical gear trannies which are my preference.

I spent many hours as a youth in the seat of Dad's Oliver 1960 1800 series A gasser with the checkerboard decals. My all-time favorite tractor which I wish I still had. If and when I find a distressed 1600 at the right price...it will be mine as it is more in line with what I could use size wise today although still too big really for my piddle patch.

paid to much for mine it was over 2k

We had a 77 on the farm growing up.I still have it and I have some of the 4 digit Olivers 1600 Utility,1650's and 1550's just always kinda liked the looks of the 770.I'm pretty hard of
hearing so the whining won't bother me(LOL)

And in fairness, since I pointed out the few things that I personally did not like then I guess I should point out the one and only thing I do like.

A 770 will have will have more power than a 77 or super 77 yet similar fuel economy when used lighty. Will be much more fuel thrifty than a 1550 or 1600 as long as their extra hp of the more powerful tractor size is not needed. Frankly a 1550 is not much more hp yet uses quit a bit more fuel than a 770 so i have been told anyway by others who owned both (gassers only).

My 1550 gas pulls a NH 851 baler good which surprised me,it has a whole lot more power than the 77.Was wondering if the 770 could pull the baler or not.I also have an after market 3pt one that the old Central Tractor company used to sell probably over 30 years old and has never been used that'd go on the 770.

The owner traded in a Super 77 diesel. He wished he would have bought a 1550 diesel. A good tune up and some work on the carb. did the job.
