Did Oliver ever make a 880 with the checkerboard grill and flat top fenders? I see 770s this way but not 880s.

No! The 770 tractors equipped that way were 1963 and later. The 880's (except for export) was last built in 1962.

The 880 was replaced by the 1600 but they continued to make 770s changing the fenders and grill to look more like the 1600. The later 770
got replaced by the 1550 when the 50 series came out.
