310t crankshaft grind

Has anyone on here with 310t experience ever heard of grinding a 310 crank to 0.030? After a lot of hours searching this site I ran across one older post for an engine with a crank ground to 0.030.

Was going to change out the rod bolts and wrist pins, very disappointed once I pulled the caps. 1 & 2 mains and 1 & 2 rods, rod bearings show bearing failure, starting flake and 3-6 look good. Not sure why, but it has to be an oil supply issue. Crank already at .020 main/.010 rods. if it was only one (1) journal I would have it welded/built up, but two (2) they say can't be done.
 
Make sure you check the clearance on the oil pump. Also have the line bore of the engine checked as well. Do you know what the bearing clearance was when you took the engine apart? You can send me an e-mail and include your phone number. J.

I did not check the clearance. Once I saw the crank, I knew knew I was in trouble here, too rough to reuse and already at .020. I don't have an email address for you, but you can send one to me at [email protected]
 
Larry Harsin has a 310 crank for sale Rods at 030, mains at 020. I would call and ask him what he thinks about your crankshaft.

I will probably talk to Larry about this, but at least it's good to know that if he has one ground to .030, so there must be some bearings out there. Thanks for the info. A .030 grind does not exactly give a person that warm and fuzzy feeling though, does it?
I guess I was curious if there was someone who was actually running one with .030 grind. I have two options on another complete engine, oil cooled, high serial number, don't think this one has been apart yet, but it's by no means a guarantee to be better than what I have, and its not exactly a give away either.
the other is a crank I just heard about.
 
We have a 310 gas we ground to .040 on the rods, couple years ago. Holding fine for now. Course we just move bales and stuff with it, burns to much
gas for heavy work.
