I recently purchased a 550 Oliver I have been checking fluid levels and found no oil showing on the hydraulic Dipstick. I have not received the books I ordered so can someone tell the capacity?

But don't just pour in 9 quarts- add a quart, check the dipstick. Repeat. It could be just below the stick.

Welcome! You will love your new 550! Here is a link to an article that can be found on the left side of this site under, Research and Info, Articles, Maintenance.

Also, the hydraulic oil is held above the rear end gear oil. There is a steel pan below the hyd oil that sometimes develops rust holes and then the hyd oil will leak down into the rear end gear oil. So just keep an eye on the hyd oil level. To check the rear end gear oil there is a square pipe plug just above and to the right of the pto shaft. The gear oil should be level with the bottom of the hole. Capacity is 5 gallons. I use 80W-90 gear oil. Good luck!

Thank you all for the help and information. Today I spent the day at the farm store getting bushings and pins to tighten up the seat. It was so worn the gear shift knob was hard to maneuver around the seat. I am a 30 year retired Caterpillar mechanic. The fun is just beginning.
