Perkins injector line

Hi guys. I?m pretty deep into an 1850 with a Perkins fix up and
paint project. I have an injector line that is leaking at the
threaded fitting that is attached to the injection pump. What do
you recommend to replace this line. Can I use either copper or
steel brake line to replace and re-flair each end? Or how
would you fix it? Is it a double or single flair? I assume the
flair is bad on the line. Thanks for your advice.

You want to live dangerously! You know how much pressure is in that line? When you take the leaking line off you look at the thickness of the line! Also You will notice there is no flare on the line. Back in the day you could get the nut and the fitting as Cockshutt part numbers (MP Numbers). J.In Cockshutt terms the fitting was called an Olive. I would remove the old one and put a new olive on and a new nut on the line and would be good to go. You need to remove the line and inspect it first. Maybe Diesel tech will answer and say he has new ones in a drawer. More questions?

What John said is spot on, but those line olives through CAV/LUCAS/DELPHI are no longer available far as I know. I've sometimes had luck swapping the banjo fittings around and got leaks stopped that way too, IF the line is not cracked just behind the olive. If it's cracked, replace the line is the only option.

Do you happen to have the part numbers of the line, nut and olives that you need? I may be able to find them.

I will check on it tomorrow. If I remember right, it?s the # 4 line in the parts book. Somebody before me really tightened it because I couldn?t tighten it any more. That?s what makes me think I need at the very least new fittings.

That's happened to me. In reality I only needed new rubber grommets (Olives). They're available on ebay, amazon, sparex, from massey, etc., I ended up buying a variety pack through Sparex via Amazon.

The RUBBER line sleeves are for inlet/outlet lines ONLY. He's talking the steel lines to the injectors, rubber does not work there. I have several sizes on hand of the rubber line olives, but none of the steel olives anymore.

I cut an old one in half one time. They're like a steel bar with a hole just a little bigger than the wire in a bread wrapper twister.

Ooops. My bad.

I'd try to find a used line on ebay. Massey and Oliver Perkins 354 should be the same (I think).

The ones on the combines might fit,but they won't necessarily be bent right. When I put a combine engine in mine,I had to use the lines from the tractor engine. The ones off the combine weren't bent right to accommodate the throttle linkage running through them. The combine used a cable like a choke cable and the tractor uses solid rods.

Well I cannot find the nuts or sleeves either. If I could get the part number of the nuts and sleeve, I could maybe find some, but Perkins doesnt list the parts separate from the line.

I had this same problem on a David Brown. Line
and olive are supposed to press fit together I think. Mine did not stay together. Could not find replacement olives or lines. I finally cleaned the line and olive and silver soldered them together. Immediately after that, Winter came and I don't know if I've fixed it or not.....

Thanks guys for all your help. I talked to a local injection pump shop and he said they can send it out to be made. I see a set on eBay, but kinda buying a cat in a sack
