1850 Brake Replacement

I am going to buy some brake discs for my 1850. Is there anything
else I should buy before I start taking it apart?
Is there anything unusual I should watch for when I have it apart?

When you get in there,if there's any oil in there at all,replace the seals on the pinion shaft. Best way to get them out if you have to is drill two small holes in them,put screws in them,wrap a wire around the screws and pull them that way. When you get the actuators out,unhook the springs and split them in half and make sure those balls are clean as a whistle. Be sure all the pivot points on those actuators work free and easy.

Like rrlund said check for oil and not only clean everything but also replace those 3 springs on each side. Do not use any oil or grease to lubricate anything. If you have dry graphite you can use that to lube the balls. If you have a later model with the shims to adjust the brakes make sure you have all of them to put back in

I would install new balls and springs in the discs. They may not look bad, but for as little as they cost they should be replaced. Taking the discs apart will also allow you to inspect the ramps for wear.

if taking them apart doesn't say using anti seize would've been good I'l say it. use it on reassembly.
