1550 front end

Randy, when I was helping my friend get his beans in this past spring, the 2-155 I was running goofed up so we hooked his 2-105 to the disc and I finished up on it. That may be the neatest "little" tractor I've ever run. gm

Ya,I tore up the fan belts on my 2-135 on Memorial Day,needed to get the last of the corn in because they were calling for rain. I hooked my 2-105 to the 20 foot disc figuring I was in for some tough, slow going, but that thing did the same job that the 135 would have done. They're one heck of a tractor.

Did Oliver use different diameter tie rods on the 50s? I need tie rod ends and I see catalogs with different size ends. Mine has 13/16 threaded inners and 15/16 notched outers but I see smaller ones too. Catalogs don't always list the sizes.

Funny you should mention that. I think the tubes are different sizes on some of them, but I found out today that the tapered part that goes through the steering arm can be different sizes too. I ordered a threaded inner tie rod end from Jerry for the 2-105 when I ordered the clutch parts for the Super 55. Everything came today. I ordered the one for the inch and a quarter tube alright, but when took it apart, the one on the tractor took an inch and an eighth wrench and the one he sent me took a seven eights. It screwed in to the tube OK,but was too small for the tapered hole and wouldn't tighten down far enough.
Darned good thing I didn't ruin the old one getting it off because I had to put it back on. Odd thing is,I almost think it'll work on the newer Series 3 2-135. That one uses a seven eights wrench anyway. I haven't got it out of the toolshed to find out,but I've got one on there that's not great,so at least I can use it if it will fit.

I don't go by the wrench sizes. I've come a cross a lot of stuff that uses the heavy hex nuts that are 1/16 larger for a given diameter. Almost every nut on my COOPs are like that. There are heavy hex bolts, too. I went to a auto parts near me and he found exactly one listing for the inner ends in an old catalog. He gave me the number because he couldn't get them, but I lost the number. I did come across a MOOG listing for it on line once but cannot find that page now. The MOOG online search by size doesn't make sense to me. Was that Jerry Stair you got it from?

Ya,I misspoke too,it was a fifteen sixteenths wrench, but I took it out and tried the new one. It was too small. I guess you'd probably want to call the new one a 5/8ths given the size of the nut,and the other one a 3/4. I know that now. Wish I'd have know it Wednesday when I ordered it. I had a heck of a time getting the old one out. It involved a jack, two pickle forks,a big hammer and a lot of heat.
