White 5400 Planter vs John Deere 694AN

So as I was scouting craigslist today I saw what appears to be a great 5400 White 4 row narrow planter. I currently have a 694AN JD 6 row narrow planter. Am I crazy for thinking the 5400 would be a better planter for my operation? I think it has double disk openers where mine is just runners. My corn head on my 4400 combine is currently 3r30” I would think I could trade to a 4 row head without spending much?

Any thoughts on this are appreciated, even if it’s I’m crazy. I currently have only 25 acres but would love to be at 80-100 in the future.

I’m not affiliated with this planter other than looking.

That's exactly the swap that I made several years ago. In all honesty,I didn't get that great of a stand with the White. It wasn't terrible, but not as good as the Allis 333 that I have now. If the 694 is a plate planter,as I assume it is,and the White is an air planter, you'll gain some flexibility with seed size there, but again,I wasn't super impressed with mine like I thought I'd be. A 5100 might be a better planter,I don't know.

A 5100 is the way to go and with commodities down you could probably buy a good usable 6 row with fertilizer for 2,500 dollars. The only reason to buy a 694 is if you are collector specializing in 1960's iron. For me it would be toss a coin between a 5400 and an AC.

Yes, a 5100 is superior to a 5400. The seed meters are better plus the hydraulic driven blower allows for adjustable air pressure and they are a much heavier planter. The seed metering system that was used on the 5100 planters from 1980 are very similar to the white seed meters used up until now , they are that good.
