Hi guys, have a oliver 77 with a blown up engine. I
also have a good running 88 engine. What needs to
be done to put 88 engine in the 77? I plan on using
77 engine backing plate and bellhousing on 88
engine.
Thanks

The 88 motor is about a half inch longer than the 77.I put a 880 motor in 770. had to cut a little off the PTO shaft. And the air breather pipe may need some modifying threw the hood.

What about the big main input shaft from the clutch to the transmission, does it need shortened? Did you use your 77 backing plate and bell housing?

You can use the 77 plate and bell housing, but you should use the 88 flywheel and clutch. The 77 clutch is not strong enough to hold the 88s power. you also can slide the 88 engine forward and drill new mount holes in the tub/engine just be sure you have it lined up good before you drill. No need to cut the shafts when you do it this way BTDT. Chuck
