hello-can anyone tell me just how interchangeable the oliver hydraulic unit is, can one from a 77, super 77 or 88 and super 88's be used on a 770?

There are 3 series of those hydraulic systems. The earliest ones had the levers out the side of the unit. The latest had the hydrolectric controls with levers out the top of the
unit. I remember one of Dad's 88s had electric control switches mounted to the steering column. I think they will all interchange but everything super series and later would have
come with the series 3.

To answer your question, the units are interchangeable from the earliest 77 through the latest 880. There are differences, but none that affect interchangeability.

Since you mentioned all "K" series units I'll assume that is what you are going to use. Type I units were pure electric control with switches on the steering column. Type II units had electric switches on the steering column, and short stubs out the side of the unit that could have levers attached so that the internal valves could be operated manually to extend or retract the cylinders without being hooked to a Hydra-Lectric cylinder. The Type III units had electric and manual controls internal to the housing, and depending how you moved the levers you activated either the electric controls, or the manual controls. There were two different center plates giving different oil volumes, but the pump assemblies were interchangeable as far as bolting them to the base plate. If you are wanting to add a hydraulic system to your tractor, try to buy a unit all in one piece. The "H" series units, 66, S-66, 660 will not work on the larger machines.
