Swartz/Oliver 1610 loader

It looks like the right lift cylinder is oozing oil out the top ,,,, I saw a video on how to change the seals,,, not a bad job,, does the loader have a 2 1/4 bore [piston] or 2 3/4,,, the outside diameter of cylinder is about 3 inches,,,, ??? I am guessing the 2 1/4 seals are for bucket cylinders,,, and the 2 3/4 seals are for the lift cylinders. I would like to have the seals when I take it apart,, so it can go right back together, shorten down time,, I found a place in Ohio, where the guy said he should have the seal,,,, or seal kit,,,, ?

Well it has been 45 years plus since I changed seals in one, but there were different diameter lift cylinders. Do you have an operators manual? Disassembley instructions were in the manual if I remember correctly.

Video on taking apart is pretty good,,, It looks like the top seal kit is the same for all cylinders,,,,[#10]
But since you have to take ram out to do top seal might as well do bottom seal,,, but different sizes for bottom,,,,,
The outside of lift cylinder is 3.1 inches,,,, but,, what is inside size,,,, was hoping to get parts then do the job,, but may have to take apart and wait for parts,,,,

I have a parts catalog/Instruction Manual for the 1610,, shows the same components as the Swartz,, again i was hoping to find out wheter to order 2 1/4 seals,,, or 2 3/4 seals befroe tearing it apart,,, so I can keep using tractor until parts get here,,,,,
 
Try Baum Hydraulics in Omaha, they have a vast selection of packing kits, and can make up sets if there isn't one listed. Rotating the gland to get the locking wire out is not going to be as easy as the video shows, especially if they've been in there for 30-40 years.
 
With 3.1" OD if the bore was 2.250" the wall thickness would be .425", with 2.750" bore the wall thickness would be .175" so my guess is 2.750" bore. You are making the assumption that there have not been any internal parts changed from new. Those loaders were made for many years, and there were internal changes. I repacked a pair of bucket cylinders for a customers loader once where they looked identical from the outside, but took different packing kits.
 
Thanks,,,, yes he the video makes it look easy,, but should not be rusted or frozen,,,,, finding where to get seals is not the hard part,,, knowing which ones to order seems to be,,, as I said,, I would like to order seals before taking it apart,,, so it will go right back together ,,,, but,,,, there are two sizes of seals,,, 2 1/4 ,,, 2 3/4,,, I suppose one could 'guess' the smaller seals are for the bucket cylinders,,, and the larger for the lift cylinders,,,,,I measured the outside of cylinders,, lift is 3.1 in bucket is 2.6 in,,,,,,,,,, but if I need to actually measure the bore,,, to find out size,, then cannot do job in a couple hours,,,,have to wait for parts,,,
 

From what I've read, I'd just go ahead and get the 2.75" seals. However since you want to be sure, order both sizes and do the lift cylinders. Whether they're 2.75" or 2.25", you'll have the right ones. I'd order both just because I'm a gambling man and do the bucket cylinders too.
 
Thanks,,,,I guess there is no shortcut,,,, just will have to dismantle the cylinder,, and just eye-ball what is needed,,, and either wait for parts,,,, or take to a shop if i want a quick in and out,,,,,, Thank you all for the info,,,, great help,,,,,
 
J has to reseal our loader lift cylinders last year. There were 2 different cylinders listed. I went to a local hydraulic seal distributor and saved $80. on the 2 seal kits over dealer price!
