Percentage of 1850's With Perkins

The post below got me to thinking - when most guys refer to the 1850 on here they mention the Perkins motor, but around here all the ones I've seen have the 310. Was that a regional thing or just coincidence on my end. I'd much rather have the Perkins, but either way I think they were a good tractor

Greg - when I worked for Bruce, he had a diesel, and I would have sworn it was a 310. Of course, that's when I was in college and not getting much sleep...

Pete, Was that at Butsky's not sure on the spelling but I did see the tractor and it's a gas. He even has the original narrow front for it in the corner of the shed. Local guy offered him $4000 cash and he wouldn't sell.

I worked for Bruce Reed, right down the road from Herb Butzke - we bred cows for him, so we were up there quite a bit. Herb's gas 1850 was his big tractor back then - his theory was that tractors were designed to be run at PTO speed - so that's what he did, no matter what the job. He had a NH 320 baler, and I spent some time stacking on a wagon behind it - made for a busy boy

Pete, I work with Bruce's son in law if you didn't know. He is the new Superintendent for Westford. Jason ended up with the 1850 and had it working and looking good. He traded it on an Agco Allis and he told me he should of kept the 1850. Your baler story reminded me of my neighbors. They weren't happy with the bale their new New Holland baler made. Earl Chase came over and told them they were not going fast enough and to up their RPM. I had a girl "friend" help me baling hay. She was a farm girl and was doing good until she starting finding gears. I came back with an empty wagon and I think she had 200 ft of windrow hanging out of my baler! Man was it wadded full and all the shear pins busted.
