Replacing a leaking rear crank oil seal turned into a complete engine rebuild.
7000 hrs on this engine.
Crank needs a grind.Head needs a valve job.
sleeves and pistons show no wear.
rod bolts still have the hex style heads and pin bushings are the split bushings(they will be upgraded)
Camshaft measure 99 % ok but needs new bushings.

I pop tested the injectors and was amazed how bad they tested considering how good this engine still started and ran.
Only one of them had an opening pressure of over 2800 PSI, the rest where 1000 to 1500 max.Spray pattern was bad on all six and none of them chattered before opening. 5 of them had broken springs in them, some broke in 3 or 4 pieces.
I wonder what the average lifespan of these injectors is.?

Anyone?

Is it worth getting new springs for them or am I better of getting new injectors?

I lied. It was $30 each to have them reconditioned.

The 1955 injector is Stanadyne number 20497. I think I was quoted around $65 new from Stanadyne, until I learned they weren't the correct injector for the smaller 283 in my 1655.

I had Mylex go through my pencils for my 1655 for ~$20-25/each. I am happy. Just another option.
ere in Canada reconditioning these things would prob cost twice the price of new injectors.
Agkits sells them new for 59 CND.
