Indirect fuel injection

The indirect system they put in the 1800 with the energy cell, is this something to stay away from? Are they prone to problems as compared to the direct system in the 1855 Perkins?

That looks like an A series engine plus the 1800 A series decals. Everybody had at least one diesel tractor in there line except Ford & John Deere. How about a serial number?

The early JD four cylinders had pre chambers and glow plugs like some IH engines did, not all JD diesels were direct injection. Some Ford Shibura diesels had glow plugs/pre chambers too.

I owned a 1800 c diesel for several years. Had no problems with the fuel system. I liked the old tractor.
