have a super 88 diesel that has not run for 15 years I have read on this forum a caution about starting engine and damaging fuel injection pump . What should I look for??

Setting that long I'll bet the plunger, sleeve and control unit are all stuck. I'd pull the pump as is, where is meaning DON'T EVEN SET THE TIMING! Just turning the engine at all will break the parts inside if stuck. Pump MIGHT be saved in the right hands, but not if the head plunger is broken. It's getting so I cringe every time an old PSB come in for repair, knowing it might need a head..
