1650 diesel or 1850 diesel

If you had a choice of 1650 diesel in really good condition low hours like 4500, vs an 1850 diesel in rough condition with high hours 7600 hours, but runs good. Which would you buy? I would be using for plowing with a 3 bottom trailer plow, and pulling a 12 ft culti-mulcher and 12 ft disk. the 1650 is $3000 and the 1850 is $4000

The 1650 if there's that much difference in condition. Those are two of Oliver's best,so choosing one over the other because the model is better wouldn't be easy.

I'd take the 1650 IF it's the late direct injected diesel, early models had the energy cell engine that didn't start as well cold. If it has the early engine, go for the 1850.

Asking an Oliver guy to pick between a 1650 and an 1850 is like asking a Mom to pick her favorite kid.

Engine will have pencil injectors that enter the head at an angle on direct injected, early energy cell engine had horizontal injectors under the exhaust manifold.

I think I would take the early Lanova 1650 given the difference in condition. Now if the two were close in condition then I might change my mind.

Spent many hours on an 1850 diesel. Have a late model 1650 diesel that I wouldn't trade for the world. Both great tractors, but for what your doing I'd go with the 1650. I think the 1650 was the best tractor ever built by anyone in that class.

The 1650 will easily handle the equipment you mentioned. As Randy said, the difference in condition is the deciding factor. The 1850 is a better cold starter regardless of the 1650 version. The 1650 is the best 70 hp tractor ever put on the market. The 1850 is the best 90 hp tractor ever put on the market. We have one of each. Wouldn't trade either one of them. My suggestion: Buy em both! $3,000 for a really nice 1650 is a heck of a buy.

Well I guess the guy found out that he was pricing it too cheap. When I called him back to say I would take it at $3000, all of sudden he said the price was now $5000. He told me, that someone had offered him $4900 and if I wanted it, I would have give him $5000. It looks like guys were calling and biding against each other and driving the price up. So I guess I lost out on that one.

Not saying for a minute that somebody wouldn't give that for one,but this 1850 diesel sold here locally two months ago for $4500. The auction was for a long time Oliver collector and user and attracted Oliver guys from several states. He'd owned this one since 1985 and was his big tractor for a lot of years. It was as nice a one as you'll find.

Like I said before I wish our 1850 looked like that tractor did. Paid About the same money for our 1850 and it's rough..

Buy both. Good price for both tractors and your wouldn't have to unhook implements. Ask rrlund about that. Never enough tractors lol!

I gave $5700 for mine better than 20 years ago. It was a sharp one owner original with 4200 hours.

Sounds like your buying a 1850 then.
I had
a go-round with a guy like that about a
1955. Said he was holding his own "personal auction". I pretty much told him where he
could put his "personal auction"after a few
phone calls and weeks of hassel. I don't
really get mad at people and usually am
very mild mannered but this guy really got
under my skin!!
