Oliver 60 row crop lift question

Can some one explain to me how the lift worked on my 60? The foot lever is missing but I put vise grips on the shaft where the lever would go and I can operate it up and down but the lift arms don't move. I'm not familiar with this kind of lift. Tried with pto in and out and it doesn't make a difference. Thanks for your input.

The arms don't move at all. The shaft that the foot peddle would go on, I can move it with vise grips but nothing happens.

It is powered by a gear on the transmission input shaft. thus engine must be running and clutch engaged to operate.

Yes, I've tried it with engine running clutch engaged pto engaged and every other combination but no movement of the lift arms. Must be something broken inside.

With the tractor off, you should be able to push the lever (in your case with a vise grip) and advance the arms manually. The power lift roller carrier spring is known to fail in these power lifts and a broken spring will keep the arms from rotating under power. With that said, if you can get the arms to move at all, I would take the cover off and make sure that the trip arm/roller is moving properly when you rotate the shaft (with vise grips).

Ok , I can move the lift arms if I move the lever with the grips. So this tells me that the spring is probably broken because the arms will not lift on
there own with the engine running . Is that what you think also. Thanks for your help.

Yes, I believe that is the most likely cause. The spring is part # B1522 and is still available from the parts depot. Also, this spring can be replaced from the top cover access, you do not need to pull the whole power lift.

Pulled the cover off and found everything in place. Spring is good. Found that the cam that moves in and out inside the big gear on top was
stuck and the arms would move freely either direction with the lever in the trip position.I got that moving as it should and it all works properly.
Thanks for all your help. I will order me a foot lever now. Found one on eBay for less than 30.00 delivered. I'll check the parts depot also.
