Picked up a pretty good 66 today at an auction it has mechanical lift.I have a 66 parts tractor with hydraulics. What will need to be done to change the one with mechanical lift to
hydraulics?

The top shaft is longer so it can drive the mechanical lift. There should be a bearing in there to support the long PTO shaft. The bearing needs to be removed and you need to swap the 2 shafts. Does either tractor have the pulley gearbox? You may need to swap out the casting supporting the gear shift, I know you need to on a 77 & 88. On a 66 I don't remember. The L-682 gasket is no longer available. Questions send me an e-mail. J.

All you have to do is take the cover/mechanical lift off. Remove the PTO shaft. Then remove the drive gear for the lift, then with a 4 1/2 inch cutting disk cut the shaft off. Remove the one bolt PTO bushing holder and drop the hydraulic in.

STUFF RAGS ON TOP OF THE GEARS AND SHAFTS, FILL IT FULL of rags
I used a sawsall to cut mine over 10 years ago and then flushed case with kerosene and fresh oil fill afterwards
used ball pein hammer and gasket material to make gasket
don't remember on gear shift
I do have a used input shaft for hydraulics, decided to cut shaft instead.
Don't remember doing anything with the belt pulley attachment

Get with Centerplate for new pump seals and if needed new bearings for hydraulic unit
easier to change when out then pulling it out later to replace them (learned the hard way)

Good luck

If I remember right (20) plus years ago I started tractor after stuffing it full of rags and used a hacksaw blade to cut that shaft off.

That is how we used to do in on a gas tractor. It did not always work the best on a diesel because of the faster idle speed.
