88 one way hydraulic

I know that to use a one way cylinder on a 88, you have to have a special swivel that can be adjusted for one way use. My question, can only one side be used for one way( right side or left side). In other words, can either side be set up for one way cylinder? I have a 88 with add on power steering that runs off of the tractor hydraulics on the left side of unit. If I get the special swivel needed, can I run one way cylinder on the right side of the hydraulic unit?? I see the correct swivel on e-bay for sale, just wondering if I bought it, can I use it on the right side of the hydraulics to raise my auger?? Thanks, Chris

I saved this picture that somebody posted at one time. Seems like it was supposed to just return the oil from the other port back to the reservoir .

Back when I had a Super 88 and an 880, they were both set up with just one set of rear remotes, coming off the right side of the hydraulics on both tractors. I ran a one-way cylinder on a number of different NH haybines for years with no problems.

It'll work OK as long as long the reservoir is full. I had a loader with one way cylinders on a Super 77. If the oil got the least bit low and it was raised all the way up,it wouldn't release to let it down. If I'd put even the least little but too much in it to get it back down,it would blow the breather cap off and spew oil all over when it got to the bottom. Just common implement cylinders, yes, they should work OK.
I doubt an 88 will even have a big enough reservoir to raise an auger with a one way cylinder, all the way up. You'll need the oil from the back side of a two way going back in to the reservoir to keep the oil level up there.

My dad's always had an add on reservoir tank to add oil capacity on his super 88. That gave it enough capacity to raise a wagon hoist all the way. My experience with my 880 is that it doesn't have enough pressure to raise my auger. It's a 10x70 Westfield. Maybe would raise a smaller one.
