Ed, if your trans has a different sounding whine in each gear it is most likely a spur gear set. If the trans is pretty quiet with little or no whine it is most likely the helical trans. Chuck

I traced the serial number and i beleive the tractor was built in late 59 or earlhy 60 i also removed the cover and it looks to me like it is the spur gear.

First you need to tell us if you have a spur gear 880 or a helical gear 880. If you have the spur gear version, parts from a 88 or Super 88 will work. If a helical model you need to tell us if the transmission has the add on pressure lube pump.

Will the serial number tell me what transmision i have or would i have to take more of the tractor apart? I will get the sderial number to you a little later.
