I have an opportunity to purchase a parade ready Oliver 66. have not seen it yet but have purchase questions. what are things to look for? What is the reputation of that tractor as far as engine, transmission etc? anything you say will help me and I thank you in advance. Allen

well the engine and transmission can't be beat. for a 4 cylinder engine it has a lot of power and with a 6 speed transmission it should hit 12 mph. since it is aparently a parade tractor there shouldn't be to much to look for but if it was me i would like to know how long ago it was restored, when did it last have its fluids changed, and how many hours has it been running.

They are asking $2200.00 for it, I read that for some reason the 66 is hard to sell. The price sure seems cheap to me and it looks great. Does the 66 have HYD?

well they say they are hard to sell if you are going overboard on the price. there are two or three 66's on tractor house that are fully restored and are asking over 6,000 for them. now if it is a restored tractor and they are asking 2200 for it that should be alright. now when you ask does it have HYD are you talking about hydraulics? if so the answer is yes if it is installed. if it does have hydraulics they are located under the dash. if it doesn't have hydraulics it is not to hard to install. all you need is a resevior, hydraulic plate, and pump. also the pump on a 66 is smaller than a 77 or 88 and you will need the shifter that comes with the hydraulic plate because they are different than the one without the hydraulics.

If it's any help,I think if you bought a rough one for scrap price and tried to make it nice, you'd have more than $2200 in it when you got done. Just depends on how bad you want a 66 I suppose. I'd say that's the top end and I wouldn't plan on making any money off it if you wanted to sell it.

You said: you will need the shifter that comes with the hydraulic plate because they are different than the one without the hydraulics.
The shift is the same, the housing it sets in is different for a hydraulic unit. They came with the hydraulic unit at one time.
